Car Raid

I, Terah Clemons, interviewed Connie Jackson, my Grandmother, on Saturday May 14th.

I asked my grandmother what her life was like these days.

"I mainly stay at home very day, and maybe go out for groceries. I also volunteer at Brackenridge Hospital, and I show people where they need to go, if they are at the hospital to visit someone, or other things like that," she said.

I asked my grandmother why she volunteered at Brackenridge Hospital.

"I volunteer at Brackenridge because I wanted to do something were I could help other people. I know how it feels to be stressed out in a hospital, with many people running around, I wanted to be there for someone is they needed help with something," she told me.

I asked her what she meant when she said she knows how it feels to be stressed out in a hospital.

"Well, I am 69 now, but when I was nine years old I got polio, and I was in the hospital for three months, in Missouri, and I was stressed out, and scared, because I was only nine years old at the time," she said.

I asked my grandmother what type of car she had, and how long she had it.

"I have a red jeep, and I have had it for 15 years." she said.

I asked my grandmother what was the most important part of the car.

"The most important part of my car is the crank in the back that pulls up my electric scooter into the trunk, without my scooter I would not be able to get around very well because I am not able to walk long distances.

I noticed there were a bunch of bags of yarn, so I asked my grandmother why,

"There are bags of yarn because I love to sew things, especially scarves, I am currently working on sewing a quilt with ocean wave designs on it," she said.

I asked how often she sews.

"I sew whenever I have nothing to do, or when i learn a new stitch design, and want to try it out."

I asked about the latest sewing project she had.

"I recently just made dark green curtains for Lisa (my mom), and that took about two weeks for me to make."

I then proceeded to ask why she sews.

"I sew because it is fun for me to do, and I just recently got a sewing machine, so that is also fun to use too."

I learned many things that I did not know about my grandmother. It was really cool to see how she viewed certain things, and what she did on a day to day basis.

Merger Photo

1. something that could be a problem is that the third and fourth girl is too close together, and not spaced out the same as all the other girl picture
2. A great place to take this photo is along the side of one of the walls, toward the front entrance of the school
3. In my photo, something creative to do is to spell out the word Bowie or Love
4. I could wear colors that make me pop out and not just bond into the wall, so the viewer focuses on the words being spelled out

HDR Photos

Warm-Up

1. My favorite photo is the girl in the yellow canoe, looking up at a giant blue iceberg
2. It seems like some of the the really artsy photos would have been taken by a real camera, not on a phone
3. I think that the apps used have changed the color of the photo, and made the colors pop more
4. Two tips to hep my photography on my phone is to hold the phone still, and to make the bright colors pop out

HDR Photography

1. Take pictures, and bracket them, then download them to your camera and edit then you basically 'erase' portions so that all the parts blend together and show a higher dynamic range (HDR)
2. The equipment you will need is a camera, and a computer
3. The reason to take an HDR image is because HDR takes 3 pictures and uses the best parts of each photo and combines them all together
4. When you merge all the images together, you will get a better picture with all the best parts from each of the three photos, you may see more detail in some of the photos, and also the best part of all of the photos combined

Final Exam Planning Warm-Up

1. I will shoot this assignment this weekend, or start shooting this weekend
2. I will shoot this assignment either at my house or at a soccer game
3. I will either be shooting about a plant growing, cooking, or a soccer game or something along those lines
4. I will need a camera
5. I will probably use the video portion toward the end or middle of the presentation, I will use the still photos all through the presentation, my narration will be going along with the video, or towards the end of the presentation.

Opinions Story

Every school has a dress code, but some are much stricter than others. I think that it is okay for the school to have a dress code on some things, like you have to wear clothing. But I think that the dress code that says girls can't wear shirts that show their shoulders unfair to girls.

The teachers think that shoulders are distracting to other people, but it's school, students are focusing on their education at school, not a girls shoulders. So it should not matter what shits girls wear, even if it shows their solders.

It makes sense why the Facility would enforce things like shoulders, or legs showing. But girls have a much stricter dress code than guys.

This is not fair because that means there is only a certain things that girls can wear, so it's not really fair.

There are many ways that people express themselves, and one of the ways they do this is by what they wear. If the dress code is too strict, then people cannot express themselves in the way that they want to.

That is not fair to certain people, because we're told to show who we truly and you can't do that if people aren't allowing you to.

Dress code has always been a problem at every school. There are always those few kids that go against the dress code. Why not just not have a dress code, and not have to worry about those kids rebelling against the dress code.

Sometimes schools do not let kids wear what they want, and just enforce uniforms. I think uniforms are much worse than a dress code. It is normally the private schools that enforce the uniforms.

I think uniforms are much worse than a strict dress code because everyone has to wear the exact same thing, and the same thing every single day. Uniforms totally and completely restrain kids from showing who they truly are.

Kids like to wear different styles of clothing, or maybe dye their hair a lighter or darker color, or maybe even rainbow. They do this to show everyone who they are, and they can not do that if they have to wear the same uniform every day.

Ever since we grew up as kids we were told to never hide who you truly are, and be proud of yourself, and to not let anyone judge you for it. But if we have to wear uniforms, then we have to hide our true personality.

I think that schools should start to be less strict on the dress code, and let kids wear what they want to, and express themselves freely. Those schools that use uniforms, should stop using them. Because I know that over half of those kids that attend that school don't like wearing uniforms, they want to wear what they want to, so you should let them.

Earthquake Story

An earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay area Monday morning. It struck at 8:12 a.m.

“A building housing McHenry’s Auto Supply at 2342 Plum St. partially collapsed, killing two people and injuring six others,” Jennifer Vu, a public information officer from the Hayward Fire Department says.

There were many people who died in the earthquake.

“Names of the dead withheld pending notifications of families,” Vu said.

Mike Beamer’s apartment is across the street from McHenry’s, and talks about what he felt during the earthquake.

“Felt a rolling motion that lasted for about 30 seconds, with a big jolt in the middle, ” Beamer said.

Beamer remembers exactly what he was doing the moment the earthquake hit him.

“I was eating breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I hared an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That’s when the screaming started start across the street,” Beamer said.

Hayward firefighters played a big role in helping with the earthquake.

“Hayward firefighters used ropes to stabilize the auto shop, conducting a search of the building and capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the site.”

The earthquake had a high magnitude.

“The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale,” according to Penny Gertz.

Penny Gertz is a scientist from the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park.

“It was under the Hayward Hills,” Gertz says where the earthquake occurs.

Gertz describes the earthquake.

“Gertz called the quake a strong one and said it occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the hills.”

Red Cross helped with the survivors of the earthquake.

“Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police and five American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse, with arriving within four minutes of the quake,” Vu said.

Jones got shot in the leg, and the bullet when through her leg, and through the side of her vehicle.

"It could have been worse, the bullet hit two inches from the gas tank," Rye said.

Jones was transported to the Huntington Beach Hospital, and her dog, Tombo, was transported to Huntington Beach Animal Control officers.

"The dog seemed to be malnourished, accruing to Janet Ngo, on of the animal control officers, and had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead," Ngo said.

Ngo indicates that her office will be looking at filling out animal abuse charges against Jones.

"Officers cited Jones for expired plates and the country's district attorney office was considering whether to charge her in relation to the gun accident, Jones didn't have a permit for the gun," Rye said.

Student of the Month story

Who- Jake Brien
What- Student of the Month
When- March 31st, 2016
Where- James Bowie High school
Why- Lonestar Dispatch Newspaper
How- Ask questions in person

I, Terah Clemons interview Jake Brien on March 31st, 2016 for student of the month. At James Bowie High School. For the Lonestar Dispatch Newspaper, in person.

Freshman Jake Brien was recently named Student of the Month by the Bowie administration.

"We chose Jake as Student of the Month because he is incredibly smart, the smartest person at Bowie, he has never gotten anything below an A plus," principal Joe Bob said.

Jake Brien believes he is the only person worthy of the Student of the Month title.

"Nobody deserve it besides me because there is no better," Brien said.

There is only one way to win Student of the Month Brien thinks.

"Because I stepped over all of those who are weak."

Brien gets along with his teachers very well.

"I always go to his birthday parties, I have ever since he was a little boy" said Mrs. Holloway, Brien's favorite teacher.

Brien is in quite a few clubs.

"I'm in NJHS, they formed NJHS around my greatness," Brien said.

Brien doesn't play any sports, but does help out with soccer.

"I ref soccer," Brien said.

Brien's favorite elective is Theater.

"Because it allows be to hang out with all of my theater friends," Brien said.

Brien's favorite class is Math.

"He does amazing in Algebra, he could probably even teach the class better then me," Mr. Warner said.

Brien agrees with Mr. Warners opinion.

"I teach the class due to my math skills, while my teacher cries in the corner," Brien said.

Brien has never gotten a B before in his life.

"All A's, straight A's, my mother would have a heart attack if I got a B," Brien said

Studying hard isn't one of Jake Brien's concerns.

"Never study, I look at something and know it," Brien said.

Some people want to be a doctor, or maybe a veterinarian, but not Brien.

"I want to be an astronaut because I want to communicate with my alien army so it can conquer the world," said Brien.

Jake Brien already knows where he is going to college.

"Harvard University because I received a scholarship at age three, solving the answer to the universe" Brien said.

Portfolio Analysis

1. Alyssa Schukar’s 2006 Portfolio:
a) Alyssa Schukar
b) Stories about sadness
c) Pictures were of a certain distance, not up close and personal. Can’t feel love or pain n any of the pictures. Not enough strong signals.
d) They like the picture of the guy sweeping. The position of the photos
e) I didn’t really like these photos, I feel like anyone could have taken them. I thought they could have tried to capture more of the pain in some of the photos.

Josh Birnbaum’s 2006 Student Portfolio:
a) Josh Birnbaum
b) Funny and happy pictures
c) Wish the guys eyes were open. Got closer to people. Take different angle for photos. Bad transition between two photos. Secondary photos.
d) They thought all the photos were funny. Took pictures at good moments.
e) I like these photos I think that the photographer took these photos at a good time. I also thought that these photos were really funny.

Melissa Golden’s 2006 Student Portfolio:
a) Melissa Golden
b) A lot of different things, not just one main topic
c) Bad pictures, doesn’t have a story behind it. Didn’t get photo at most important part of action. Power lines were in the way of picture, she should have moved somewhere to get a better shot.
d) Had a good portrait of old man. Had good portraits towards the end of the photo shoot.

e) I liked the photos at the end with the old people. Not towards the beginning, because it was just a bunch of jumbled photos.

2. Dustin Snipes 2006 Student portfolio:
a) good color, composition, shot at good angles, everyone is doing something in the photos, good set up portrait, creative
b) I think that he took all the pictures from a really cool angle. Also, the one portrait that he took, he put a lot of thought into it, and it looked really cool. I think that he could have made some of his pictures less blurry than they really were.

3. Contest Recap:
a) They all talked about how they felt about each photo. They listen to each other’s ideas. If the photographer put together a really good portfolio.

Part 2- Individual Photos:
1) I agree with one of the photographers on the very first photo, I thought it was beautiful how the light was coming into the photo. The photo of the girl throwing her tennis racket in the air is a beautifully taken photo, with a lot of emotion in it.
2) I don’t agree with the pictures in Part 4. I think that the pictures could have been better. They weren’t as amazing as the judges said.

Sensory Overload Warm-Up

1) I think that it is saying that we surround ourselves with objects and stuff like that, not just buildings, but with stuff that comforts us. I agree with this statement. I fell like we should take pictures of people around the things that they love, and not just random buildings.
2) When i looked through the photos, it hurt my eyes to look at for so long. I would go and take photos there, but not for that long.
3) I wouldn't like to be a child of someone who worked at one of these places because some of the dolls, and mannequins creeped me out a lot.
4) My favorite photo is the one of the lady with black hair and a blouse on, and she is sitting at her desk. It has a a lot of walls, covered in different types of beads. And page lining at the top and bottom of the walls.

Action Photography preview

Warm-Up:

1. Because whenever a football team wins a game, they dump the water or gatorade on the coach.
2. The shutter speed is probably 1/2500
3. This is a key moment because if the team wins, they jump the water, so you know that they won the game. This could have been planned by the players because they were happy to win the game, so they planned for two people to dump the water on the coach.
4. They made the picture slow dow so that you could see the water pouring on the coach, and the slow motion of it.

Front Pages of the World

1) My favorite newspaper is Times Standard because I really like the design of it, and the big picture on it is is beautiful

2) "Proposed medical marijuana rules draw mixed reaction" Im interested in it because i don't really believe in those types of things but I like hearing and seeing other people's points of views on the subject.

3) Six stories are on the front of my newspaper

4) All newspaper mainly have the title at the top of the newspaper. They have the same basic layout, with one big main picture on the cover, and tiny ones around it.

5) Things that vary on newspapers are the size of the texts and the stories, they all mainly have different subjects. They may have the same subject if something in the world happens that affects the whole world.
