Finals Review

2) Rule of thirds- the subject of the picture is shifted from the center of the picture to the sides
Balancine Elements- for example if you have a horse on one side of the picture, you have another          on on the other ice of the picture
Leading Lines- the viewers eyes are attracted to the lines on the picture leading to the subject
Symmetry and Patters- bring a sense of visual rhythm and harmony to photographs
Viewpoint- angle, direction,or stance from which you choose to take a picture
Background- having a simple background, without a lot of "distraction" in it
Create Depth- you make your photo much more engaging and interesting to viewers eye
Framing- using the things around the subject to make a frame or square looking things around it
Cropping- removing of outer parts of an image
Mergers and Avoiding them- not busy edges, where you don't crop out any part of the image

3) Aperture- controls the amount of light admitted through an opening
ISO- controls the speed of light coming trough
Shutter Speed- the length of time when a digital sensor inside the camera is exposed to light

4) Acceptable- taking away any blemishes like acne, or possibly whitening their teeth
Not Acceptable- changeling around their while body, making body parts bugger or thinner,
changing face and making it skinnier or changing eyes by making them bigger or a different color

5) Environmental Portrait- has subject where they normally would be, or outside
Self Portrait- Where you take the photo yourself, and it has you in it
Casual Portrait- where the subject of the photo isn't in a suit or anything, and they are just doing
    something they would normally do

6) Exposure- amount of light per unit area
Depth of Field- distance between nearest and farthest objects
Focal Length- distance from mm from the optical center of the lens to the focal point

7) Early Magazine- dedicated opening page to a title and a table of contents
Poster Magazine- mainly just a big photo on the front, and the title, nothing else was on the front
Married to Type Magazine- relied heavily on cover lines to draw readers inside than the art on the
    cover could accomplish
Forest of words- covers integrate intense photography with amazingly large number of vivid cover
lines, there is a lot more writing on the cover, and the writing overlaps the photo

8) Paul Kitagati Jr. discovered that his father was among thousands of Japanese-Americans confined to internment camps during World War Two led him to seek out survivors who had been photographed by Dorothea Lange.

Blog #4- Magazines Part 2

Early Magazine Covers- the front page was normally the title and table of contents, and a picture. The Poster Covers- produced many memorable covers, the covers are very outdone, professional artists did them, and looked like they should hold be hung up in some pace like and art museum. Pictures married to type- others relied on cover lines on the cover of the magazine to draw peoples attention to  the magazine, and there was normally a large title wight he models face overlapping it. In the forest of words-these magazines are more of the magazines that you see more often, with a bunch of words around them, and things that are the main subject that will draw more attention to the magazines.

Fashion

1) Put on a lot of makeup, curled her hair, made her eyes different colors, stretched out her neck, pulled down her shoulders, and made her eyes bigger

2) Her eyes were made bigger, and blue, also they removed her freckles, gave her lighter skin, stretched out her face, made jaw smaller, made body thinner

3) They made the lady much skinnier than she was, the took off all her fat, made her chest and butt bigger, made her hair longer

4) It is not at all ethically acceptable to adjust someones body like this. They are changing someone for who they aren't, and making them the way tat society wants them to be, but hey sold be how they are, and not change that.

5) It is always wrong to do this. Its not okay, people shouldn't look at themselves as that.

6) Some changes are okay like removing your acne or red eyes from flash. But chaining their whole body is never okay.

7) Fashion photography is fake, its not real. Its changed around to meet peoples needs, and the way society wants people to look like. But Photojournalism is where you take pictures of people, and adjust the color of the photo, not the person's body.

8) Fashion Photography affects other people photography because people  may think that since the fashion people are ding it, then eery single photographer is also.

9) You are showing us these photos because you want to show us the truth about the world, and how this world really works. And that those posters we see aren't always real.

10) I think that that none of these videos are of guys because girls have higher expectations in society, and people are more likely took look at something if it is of a girl.

Blog #3- My Favorite Cover

Winner
The Atlantic, November 2014, Why Kids Sext
Photographer: Katherine Wolkoff
"Hanna Rosin's "Why Kids Sext" takes a look at a school in Lousia County, Virginia. The town's high school faced an epidemic of kids taking and sharing nude pictures on tehir phones. Technically, this is a crime, but how can law-enforcement deal with it? You can't register every kid as a sex offender, and the kids don't think it's a big enough problem to stop. For the cover, we wanted something provocative, but tasteful--not too graphic. I reached out to the photographer Katherine Wolkoff, who does amazing portraits of people in silhouette. The idea was to have our (18-year-old) model portray a teenage girl as she takes a nude selfie. The combination of the shadows and the white background creates a surreal image that gives the feeling of something dark beneath the surface."

I like how this magazine cover tells us something. I don't really like how much of the woman's body parts are shown off in the photo. The title is very big, and tells you what the main idea of the magazine is, which I like because I want to know what the main idea about what I'm reading is. Your able to tell who the main subject of the magazine is because the photographer darkened her, or adjusted the lights to make her look darker. Overall, this is a pretty good magazine cover. Some magazine covers show off too much body parts but this one doesn't show them. It also lets you know their opinion of the topic.

American Soldier- Photos Make The Story

A) The most powerful image out of all of the photos is the first photo in Part one. I think this because, it is a picture of Ian holding a sticky note to confirm his enlistment for that month. And when you look at him, you can just see how nervous he is, because he is only 17, and he is going into the Army. When you look at the photos, you see, and get to feel the emotions he is going though at the time, and all the thoughts and "what if's" running through his mind.

B) Set 1: at home- Image #1 to Image #3
Set 2: basic training- Image #4 to Image #14
Set 3: in Iraq- Image #15 to Image #27
In image #28 he is back at home in Denver

C) The set of images that was  pst powerful to me was the ones of him in Iraq. Because you get to see whats its like. And you get to see how sad they are without their families, and how hard it is there.

D) The images work together to tell a story by starting where he's at home, then he as to go off to training camp , then off to Iraq. You see the emotion in all the pictures, an what his family has to go though. But at the end, you can see how happy everyone is to see him, when he comes home.

E) The verbs are usually written in past tense.

F) The captions enhance the photos because it describes what's going on the photo, and where he is in the photo. You may be thinking one thing, but then the captions tell you what is early going do.

G) Ian is 17 years and was going into the army, he had to first go to training camp, an then he would be able to go to Iraq. It was really hard at training camp because it was really bad if you messed, up because you had to end up doing some sort of punishment. Ian goes off to war in Iraq, and comes back lave, and proposes to his girlfriends in front of everyone.

Self Portrait and Portraits Part 1

2-3 Tips:

1) Break the Rules of Composition

There are a lot of ‘rules’ out there when it comes to composition and I’ve always had a love hate relationship with them. My theory is that while they are useful to know and employ that they are also useful to know so you can purposely break them – as this can lead to eye catching results.

The Rule of Thirds is one that can be effective to break – placing your subject either dead centre can sometimes create a powerful image – or even creative placement with your subject right on the edge of a shot can sometimes create interesting images.

2) Hold Your Camera on an Angle

Horizontal and Vertical framings are not the only options when it comes to shooting portraits. While getting your images straight can be important in when shooting in these formats holding your camera on a more diagonal angle can also inject a little fun into your images.

This type of framing can add a sense of fun and energy into your shots. Just don’t ‘slightly’ do it or you’ll have people asking themselves if you might have mistakenly held your camera crooked.
3)You can also capture a self-portrait by supporting your camera, then frame your picture and focus with a stand-in. Place a mirror just behind the camera, and do your final posing in the mirror. This method also requires a self-timer, or a remote triggering device if your camera has one. Once again, if you use a self-timer, you'll need to get into position before it goes off
Environmental Portrait:
I picked this photo because I like horses, and I like how is sun is reflecting off the horses mane.
I picked this photo because it shows how had things really are. I like how it shows the truth of the world, when most photos don't.
I picked this photo because I liked that she was in water. I liked how the photographer chose a different environment than most photographers do.
I picked this photo because I thought it looked really cool. It was black and white, but there was only a title but of color, that makes it stand out.
I picked this photo because it had a really simple background. Also, she looks really pretty photo, and it is really clear who the main subject it.
I picked this photo because this couple is the price and princess of England. And my aunt and uncle live in England, so i like this couple, and it is a really pretty photo.

For my portrait project, I am going to shoot my friends. Im thinking that I could do it in the woods behind my house. I would do it in the woods because it would be a really good shot. And the photo would turn out really pretty with all the trees in the background. I think something I could do to make the photo successful is to really take into consideration what i am shooting and everything around it, and using the environment to help me. Also, i think that the best rule i could use is rule of thirds because i know how to do that one, and also the rule where there is a simple background, and it is easy to tell what the subject is.

Love and Loss Warm-Up

1) At the beginning, I felt happy, and felt this warm feeling come over me. But then I realized what was really going on, and I felt upset, and sad. his is because I realized she had cancer.

2) I fell that the person is trying to tell us that these things do happen in our life. And, some of us may be going through it.

3) I feel like I would be able to take photos like this. Maybe not a good as this, but I would be able to. Because I am in sort of a situation like this, but its different in a way.

4) I would say, "I am so sorry for what your going through I am truly sorry, I cant imagine what is it like. There are many hard things and life, and they are just obstacles God put in our way, so that we could over come them. I am, so sorry. But your pictures are amazing. I love how they capture every emotion that is going on, and it makes you fell like you are right there."

Abandoned Theme Parks

1) The amusement park that I want to go to is in Prypiat, Ukraine. I want to take my camera there and take photos because I saw that it snows there, and I love when it snows, because I love freezing cold weather. Also, everything looks so pretty when it is covered in a sleet of snow. Also, the rides look old and rustic, which would work out to be a really pretty picture.

3) -Spotted Lake
    - The Giants Causeway
    -Thor's Well
    - Pamukkale
    - Lake Hillier

4)

 5) I would want to take pictures here because it is really pretty, and cool looking. I haven't seen anything like it before. Photos that i could take here are of the rushing water. Maybe also some sunset photos.

6) Equipment that I would need for this trip is a camera, and a tripod, to stable the camera to take pictures with. My family would be able to pay for the plane ticket and other stuff like that.

Africa

1) I noticed that in the pictures on the websites I visited, there was a lot of animals, but mainly from Africa. On one of the websites it talked about how the photographer took the photos. Also, he explained how he thought each picture through before he took it.

3) This photo is my favorite because I think it is so cute how the lions heads are close together, and shows how they love each other. I think that they both know that no matter what they will always be together.

4) Rules that are evident in this photo are rule of thirds, and simplicity because there is a solid background.

5) Camera- Pentax 6711
    Lenses- Two Fixed Lenses

6) While directing music video, he fell in love with the animals, so he tried to film the animals, but that didn't work out so well, so he changed over to photography and used the camera to capture his feelings and love of the animals.

7) His hope by taking these photos was to show people animals in they state of being instead of in action which is what most photographer produce.

8) "I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild. What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being. In the state of Being before they are no longer are. Before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes." -Nick Brandt

Funny Old People

These people are 2 old ladies on their scooters, they are in downtown Austin, they went to go shopping for those fur coats, they went around 2:00 pm, after their nap. When they were younger they use to go to the candy store, then the outlet mall next to it, the one on the red scooter is Francis, and the one on the blue is Felicia, they're best friends, who play poker and have tacos every tuesday.

This is an old lady, who went to a bar after church, to party with her friends, she got into the out of control area because she was too much of a party animal. She was walking home, but got too tired, so sat down in the out of control area, her name is Nancy.
These people are an elderly couple, they are protesting about animal abuse but forgot, they are in Houston, Texas, they stared protesting after they had their prune smoothies, they are protesting because they love animals, and have 11 cats. They were so happy about protesting, that they forgot about what they were protesting about, they're names are Lila and Robert.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1) The first thing that caught my eye bout my photographer is that his photos were different than others. The reason i chose his photos is because he took stop motion photos, which looked really cool. The photo i liked the most was the stop motion one of the horse.

2) I see a galloping horse. I see its muscles pumping as hard as they can. I see a town up ahead.
I smell I sweat stench coming from the horse. I smell the cooking from the homes along the way. I
smell the cow manure along the way.
I hear I hear the trotting of the horse. I hear a train on the tracks. I hear children at play as i ride    along.
I taste dirt being kicked in my face as I ride the horse. I taste the adrenalin going through my body.   I taste the hot air.
I feel the wind run through my hair. I fell the hot air on my face. I feel the horse's hair touch my leg as we gallop along.

3) I would like to make a college to show my photographer. Because he has so many cool photos. I want to share them with everyone.

Mural Project

1) I think a theme that we could take pictures of around the school would be nature. I think that pictures of nature brighten up a place. It makes the building look nicer and happier.

2) I think that people should use whatever they want to take photos. Because not everyone has iPhones, or not everyone has a camera. Some people don't have either, so the school should lend out cameras if some people don't have anything to take photos with. Or, two people could pair up to take photos.

3) I think that we should put the murals everywhere on campus. Especially on the ceiling, I've seen it done before and it was so beautiful! Also, we should put the murals on the hallways to make the hallways look more appealing and nice to be in, and help make people feel welcome and safe.

Academic Shoot Reflection and Critique

1) Challenges I encountered was actually building up the courage to go into the classrooms. Because I get scared going somewhere alone into a place where I don't know people.

2) I found myself thinking most about the focus and angle of the camera.

3) Something I would do differently would to go with a partner.

4) I would keep the same thing that we did where we had to go into classrooms.

5) The easiest rule to achieve on the next prompt would be rule of thirds.

6) The hardest rule to capture was everyone but rule of thirds and simplicity.

7) I am still not clear on all the other rules but rule of thirds and simplicity. I could look them up online and go over the definitions till I remember each of the rules.

http://mikaylazellnersphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/2015/10/aperture-shutter-speed-and-iso.html?showComment=1444331954603#c9115282331671492722

Post Shoot Reflection

1) The rule that i followed was simplicity. I just too a photo from on top of the stairs looking down at the students. I just placed them in the middle of my photo.
2) The subject of the photo is all the papers on the table. Because i wanted to show how much students have to study to get a good grade on tests.
3) I think I could have been more specific on what the subject is. I think that the way  think of the subject is different than others.
4) I think i could have put the focus on a person to make my subject more noticeable. Or, i could have positioned the camera differently.

1) The rule that I used is Rule of Thirds. The girl in the yellow shirt draws your attention to her because of her bright shirt. She is also shifted to the side.
2) The subject of my picture is the girl in the yellow shirt. This is because the first thing you look at is her because of her bright shirt.
3)  I think that it is pretty clear what the subject of my picture is. But, some people may think that it is the teacher.
4)  I feel like I did a pretty good job on this picture of "saying" what the subject is.

1)  The rule I used was a simple background. So that you only focus on the girl reading, and nothing else in the background. Because, there is nothing else distracting in the background.
2)  The subject of my photo is the girl reading. I zoomed in on her, and tried to take out any distractions in the background.
3)  I think that is clear that the subject of my photo is the girl reading because thats the first thing you look at in the photo. Also, she takes up the while frame of the photo.
4)  I think that to be more clear on my photo by maybe in photoshop figuring out how to change the color of her scarf. So that you look at her, and not the scarf, because it is the only bright color in the picture.

ISO and different setting numbers

  1. The advantages of shooting at a football game at night at a higher ISO is that the higher ISO helps freeze, or capture the picture better. SO that the picture isn't as blurry.
  2. The suggestions that the author are to us about low ISO is that when there is plenty of light you should always use low ISO.
  3. The suggestions the Author made to us about high ISO is that when  you shoot indoors without a flash, you should use high ISO.

Aperture Settings: 2.8, 4,5.6,8,11,16,22
Shutter SpeedSettings: 1Sec, 1/60 sec, 1/4000 sec
ISO Settings: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, 12800, 25600

2. Auto mode is when the camera automatically selects shutter speed or aperture. Shutter Priority mode is when you choose to turn on shutter speed, and the camera automatically chooses aperture.
Manual mode is when you can choose to turn on shutter speed and aperture whenever you need to.

Aperture Settings

F2.8

F16

  1. The part of the body that we can most relate aperture to is your eye. Well, more specifically the  pupil of your eye.
  2. The smaller the Aperture means that less light is able to get through, so the lens is more focused on everything. The higher the Aperture means that the lens is bigger and more light can get through, and so the picture is focused just on one subject.
  3. Aperture affects Depth of Field because it makes the image look sharper.

Part Three

1. - lookout for those quiet moments to take pictures of, because they are hard to find.
    - take pictures that make have a memory of something, that reminds the viewer of something that
      they remember.
    - look at where the light is, and use it in your advantage in the picture.

2.

3.

4. This photographer didn't really follow the rules of this photo. The photographer didn't make that flower take up the whole frame. But the photographer did follow the rules of the photo by making it a simple picture, with a non-distracting background.

5. The style of painting that would influence me is outside photos. Or, like some photos taken in nature. Because I love seeing the beauty of everything outside, and it aces me feel happy.

Part One

1. My reaction to his work is that it was confusing. It also kind of hurt my eyes. But, at the same time it thought it was really cool how he rotated his work.

2. I think the way he made these photos is that he had his one photo and rotated it. Or, he also copied it and then pasted it and then rotated the image. But keeping the middle section of the image in the center of the image.

3. I think that one concrete structure that would work for these types of photos is the statue of liberty. Because, she is straight up and just like all the other photos that this man took.

Favorite Photo from Academics/Community Service

1.  I picked this photo because I think is a good photo. I don't mean that it looks good, but that the things going on in the photo are good. The people are feeding the homeless, and it is just such a nice thing to do, and something that I have done before, and it was so much fun. Also, it makes you feel good, because you re doing something good for others.

2.  The rules of photography that evident in this photo are rule of thirds. The action is off to the sides because there is a bunch of color to the side, so it draws your attention there.

3.  I think that I could take photos at a science fair, like the ones I saw today.
4.  I think I would like to take photos in Mrs. Dobrenels room.
5.  Things I would do to take photos I saw from today would to go to a place full of excitement, and where there are always things going on.

Filling the Frame

This picture shows"filling the frame". I think this because there are more people in the picture, but they are bung cut off, so that means they the photographer is trying to get people in the picture as much as they can. Or, "filling the frame".

Action and Emotion

This picture shows action an emotion. I think this because something has exploded, and so the girls are laughing and surprised. Also, there is a lot of stuff flying everywhere.

The Story

This photo shows the best story. I think this because there a lot of students hand in hand, despite their differences, they still come together when there is something they care about. I think the story is that they're praying over someone they knew, that passed away.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1. On Aprils Fools day a photographer named Menahem Kahana took a photo. Some one else fooled around with the photo before it was posted in the newspaper. The photo got passed around many times for people to fooled around with it.

2. I honestly don't see anything wrong with these photos. I think they are acceptable photos. I have definitely seen better action shots, but these photos aren't horrible.

A. The photo is unethical. I am confused by this photo. Are the people being forced to do something? Or being saved?

B. This photo is the least unethical. Because under the photo, it explains what is going on. All the other ones confuse me on what is going on, or what the topic is about.
